Reducing Waste: Save the Environment!
Excess amounts of waste are slowly destroying our environment. There are many ways you can contribute to combatting this issue and help save the environment!
Methods to Reduce Waste:
Reduce
Reduce means to minimize consumption via methods such as using reusable products, using products with minimal packaging, and reducing unnecessary materials.
Reuse
Reuse means to use the same product over and over again. Many products are made to be reusable, which can significantly reduce the amount of waste produced.
Recycle
Many materials such as paper, plastic, glass, and many more can be recycled. After using products made of such materials, recycling them can help reduce waste.
How You Can Implement These Methods:
Reduce
Stop buying things you don’t need.
Carry things in your own bag.
Limit the use of single-use items.
Buy things in bulk.
Reuse
Use reusable containers.
Thrift Shopping.
Buy secondhand electronics.
Repair broken items instead of buying new ones.
Recycle
Check with your local recycling plant to set up a recycling bin at your house that you can put waste of acceptable material into for recycling.
When in public, look out for recycling bins and make sure to put waste into the correct material labeled bin.
Composting
What is Composting?
Composting is the managed process of organic materials by microorganisms performing aerobic biological decomposition.
What is the Benefits of Composting?
There are a variety of environmental benefits to composting as it can help not only reduce waste, but improve soil quality and even combat climate change!
How Can I Start Composting?
You can start your own compost in a few simple steps!
Find an area of bare earth to start your compost pile.
Lay trigs or straws, a few inches deep.
Add your compost materials in layers, and make sure to alternate between dry and wet.
Add manure, or any other source of nitrogen to start the composting process.
Keep the compost moist, whether that be watering it or letting rain do its job.
Cover your compost with something such as wood.
Every few weeks you should turn your compost pile with a shovel to help with the aerating process.
